Some things I’ve begun to notice

Something I’ve begun to notice
is that when people get older, their skin seems to get more translucent. But that’s just it- seems to.
when really
We are translucent from the start.

Something I’ve begun to notice,
(besides the way your skin is starting to opaque itself like celery),
is the way I can see your veins now. Deep blue like the Irish Spring soap I’m so afraid you’ll slip on one of these days.

I’ve begun to notice how rubbed through and mottled your slippers are with the crumbling cork on the sides and the gaping hole worn through talking and talking.

I’ve begun to notice how little folds have added themselves to your body like laughter, secretly and overnight.

I’ve begun to notice how afraid I am to not notice every little thing in case I won’t be able to soon.
